Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts was a competent if unremarkable side story set in the Sniper Ghost Warrior game universe. While it did not follow the story as set out in the main game it added some interesting new mechanics to that formula, most notably allowing you to play the game a bit more like a traditional FPS allowing you to run and gun.
Of course the real fun in a game with the word “Sniper” in the title is managing to kill your targets from a long distance. And this game allows you to do that, using all sorts of interesting toys. For example, players can use bullets that act as a mini radar antenna and these ping and reveal bad guys in close proximity.
The trailer above was released today and introduces one of the sandbox levels that we will get to play come release day. Kuamar is a desert map with some interesting features allowing you to kill from distance or get up close and personal.
CI Games describes the setting as below.
“Kuamar is an original setting in the modern day Middle East, nestled between the Lebanese and Syrian borders. A brutal dictatorship, led by President Omar Al-Bakr and his wife, Bibi Rashida, has controlled the region for over 20 years… and their reign must now be stopped. With intel from Control, players take on the role of Raven, executing contracts across all-new locations in an attempt to topple this insidious criminal organization and bring them to justice.
Kuamar will provide players with a variety of sniper paradises, evolving the sandbox level and objective design fans loved in the first Contracts release. In Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, there are 5 distinct maps that can be approached however a player wishes. Realistic weapons and gadgets are unlocked throughout the campaign, whilst upgrade points can be used to obtain and upgrade skills to create a custom playstyle. As players expand their arsenals and improve their skills, they can revisit each contract with different approaches to collect more rewards.”
The trailer voiceover and setup as well as the identification of a main target wears its inspiration on its sleeve – the Hitman series. While the first game was also a homage to the Hitman games, it was not quite this obvious. Honestly, the more games that take their inspiration from Hitman the better.
Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 releases on 4 June 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and the Xbox Series of consoles.
