Stadia is not dead yet. Despite Google shutting down its internal studio, Stadia Games & Entertainment, they seem to be going ahead with the plan to offer the service as an additional platform to both publishers and gamers. To that end Square Enix and People Can Fly have announced that their new multi-player shooter Outriders will be coming to Stadia on 1 April 2021.

And no that’s not an April Fool’s Joke. Unlike with earlier games that were added to Stadia this game will be the same version that you can buy on all other platforms.

People Can Fly have shown in the past with Bulletstorm as well as Gears of War Judgement that their skills with shooting mechanics are second to none. Storytelling on the other hand is not their strong suit as also evidenced by these two games.

Outriders looks like a departure from those games as it incorporates multi-player elements as well as role playing skill trees into its game play mechanics. The trailers shown so far are intriguing showing some nice powers and shooting, but sadly none of the leash mechanics and stylish kills of Bulletstorm. However, given the failure of multiple hero shooters over the years and the lack of any previews, demos, betas or simple marketing for this game just two months from release, this game may be on a hiding to nothing.
Outriders releases 1 April 2021 on all major platforms including last gen consoles.
