If you were waiting to get a better look at Gotham Knights, then this weekend pasts DC Fandome may have thrilled and disappointed in equal measure. True to word, WB Games Montreal did show of more of Gotham Knights, but only in the form of a story trailer. Unfortunately we’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see some new gameplay from the game.

As expected, Gotham Knights will be taking on Batman’s Court of The Owls storyline. Originally written by Scott Snyder and drawn by artist Greg Capullo, The Court of The Owls storyline was a major part of re-envisioning Gotham and Batman’s history as part of DC’s New 52 reboot. The Court are a secret criminal society of the wealthy who have controlled Gotham from the shadows since at least the 1600’s. Murder and deception are their tools, along with the formidable undead assassin’s they employ, The Talons.

The game takes place sometime after the apparent death of Batman, when Gotham has once again begun a descent into chaos. Batman’s former partners, Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin have reunited to save Gotham from itself and the shadowy figures trying to tear it apart.

The latest trailer gives a pretty good case for The Court of The Owls been the major bad guys for the game, though Mr. Freeze and The Penguin will make an appearance as well. Outside of introducing The Court and The Penguin, the trailer is dripping with atmospheric dread, promising a dark game and equally dark story. Is Batman really dead? Did The Court play a part in his demise? Well you’ll just have to play the game to find out the answers when it finally does release sometime in 2022.
