Genshin Impact gets a massive feature update including a native PS5 version.

Genshin Impact is one of the biggest games released in 2020. The free-to-play game from Chinese developer miHoYo has been a runaway success making, just from the mobile version mind you, over $1 billion in the first six months of release. So it comes as no surprise that the developer is continuing to add content to the game and has made good on its promise to release a native PS5 version.

On 28 April 2021 the game will get a massive update named the Light of Jadeite, or version 1.5. This update will first and foremost bring native PS5 support to the game meaning that if you are lucky enough to own a PS5, you will no longer be playing the game via backwards compatibility. Practically this means that the game will boast enhanced textures, be playable in 4K and take advantage of that super-fast PS5 SSD to reduce load times to near zero. This is going to put even more pressure on Sony to get production of this console ramped up to meet demand.

In addition to this excellent news for PS5 owners, all players on all supported platforms will get access to two new characters. The first Eula (and that is not End User License Agreement) is also known as the Spendrift Knight from Monstadt. Accompanying End User…sorry Eula is a lawyer. I swear I am not making this up. Yanfei is described as a legal adviser from Liyue Harbor.

The announcement in the Playstation Blog describes Eula as,

”…the Captain of the Knights of Favonius Reconnaissance Company, Eula is a five-star character, a claymore-user, and the bearer of a Cryo Vision. Her Elemental Skill, Icetide Vortex, increases her resistance to interruption and her DEF while dealing Cryo DMG. Her Elemental Burst deals AoE Cryo DMG to nearby enemies and creates a Lightfall Sword that follows her around for a certain duration, increasing her resistance to interruption. By dealing damage, Eula charges the Lightfall Sword until it explodes at the end of its duration, dealing AoE Physical DMG.

Eula’s story will be unveiled via an upcoming sidequest.

Yanfei is described as,

“…a young half-human, half-illuminated beast born in Liyue during peacetime. She has dedicated herself to studying and interpreting Liyue’s extensive legal code and helping her clients extricate themselves from even the most complicated of legal wrangles. The four-star Pyro-using catalyst-wielder generates Scarlet Seals with her Normal Attack, Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst. Scarlet Seals provide a stackable buff that decreases Yanfei’s Stamina consumption and can be consumed to increase the power and range of her Charged Attacks.

In addition to these two characters you will come up against some new enemies and a new boss in the Trounce Domain. Azhdaha, the “Lord of Vishaps, is described as a formidable enemy who can unleash different elemental attacks. Thank goodness he is sealed away underground.

Finally, the Serenitea Pot will allow you to enter a realm all your own allowing you to build your dream house so that you can chill out and relax and just get away from all this fighting. A place where you can recharge your batteries, because in this day and age and after confronting enemies like Azhdaha, the “Lord of Vishaps, selfcare is even more important than usual.

Of course an update this big is not just about new content. There will be some gameplay optimisations as well as changes to XP gains for playing the game in co-op. They will also be adding new seasonal challenges and events but the details on those and the rewards will be released a little bit later.

All in all this looks like it’s going to be an update to keep all the players on iOS, Android, PC, PS4 and PS5 happy and busy for months to come.
