Vicarious Visions’ phenomenal remaster of Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 + 2 is finally heading to Nintendo Switch in June. The game originally released on PS4, Xbox One and PC last year with the next gen upgrades/versions out in March of this year along with an announcement for a Switch version sans date. Finally Activision has announced the release date for the Switch version to officially be June 25th, 2021.
While there is a release date, there is no trailer to show off what we can expect from the game visually on Switch, though it seems that there will be a local two player co-op mode with the games multiplayer features remaining intact. Create-A-Park and Create-A-Skater features will also be part of the Switch package.
Rebuilt from the ground up and running on Unreal Engine 4 – making it more of a remake than a remaster – Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 showcased some beautiful visuals along with smooth and responsive gameplay on its launch consoles. The next gen versions sported some extra bells and whistles that made an already gorgeous game look even better while taking advantage of the ultra-fast load times thanks to their SSD’s. It’s safe to say that we can’t expect PS5 levels of visual fidelity on the Switch but the games pick up and play nature is a perfect fit for the machine.
